Good Neighbours Pack
Are you praying for your neighbours but struggling over the next stage in building those bridges? At last there is a resource - the Good Neighbours Pack - to help us all in being good neighbours and demonstrating the love of Christ.
This very simple pack helps people explore 'how' we build relationships with our neighbours:
How do I get to know my neighbour when I don't even know their name? How do I get to know my neighbour better when I only see them to have a chat once in a blue moon? How do I get to know my neighbour when they are so different from me?
This pack contains a number of different activities that can be put together to run one, two or more sessions on helping people to get to know their neighbours better.
Contents:
- What kind of people live on your street? - How does Jesus see our neighbours? - Sharing experiences of past friendships. - The Good Neighbours Game. - Case Study of Green Forest Road. - Drawing your own street map. - Assessing your relationships. - Which neighbours do I want to get to know better? - Brainstorming ideas for getting to know my neighbours. - Using idea cards. - Deciding on next actions. - Prayer. - Meditation on God's work of building community.
Groups who have used it have had lots of fun. They've also all been challenged and encouraged about simple things they can do to build relationships in their street or block.
Comments from church leaders who have used the pack:
"The programme was interesting and varied, with lots of different ideas that I hadn't come across before." "The pack plays a very important role in shifting views of mission from a church-centric approach (getting people to evangelistic services) to a people-focused approach (doing mission where you are: at work, in your street, etc)."
Comments from church members who have experienced the materials:
"The activites helped us to think through ideas, and encouraged us in what we are already doing in our community." "I really enjoyed the practical focus of the evening. It was good fun, and I learnt lots." "Drawing my street and thinking about the people who live in it I found really helpful."
The Good Neighbours Pack costs £5 and is available from the Transform Newham Office. Please send cheques payable to 'Transform Newham' for £6 (inclu P&P), to Transform Newham, Latimer Hall, Cleves Road, East Ham, London E6 1QF.
